I'd like to call it mine.

Do you have a favorite purse or bag? What does it look like? How does it serve it’s purpose? Is it big or small?


I never thought I’d be one to “collect” handbags. Ok, I don’t actually collect them, but I do like the ones I have, and use. J might beg to differ on that, but in all honestly, I don't collect them like I do with my Greek Key glass.

Where to start? I have two medium to small sized black purses. They usually get the most use since they can hold what I need to carry, and don't allow me to overload them. I have one larger black purse, which surprisingly isn’t too big for me. I actually checked with a woman who was shopping for purses next to me.

“Excuse me”, I said. “Do you think this purse is too large for me? I have a hard time knowing for sure.”

She was nice enough to help me out and said, “No, it’s just fine. I think it’s really cute too.”

Thank goodness it was on sale for $12.00! She made it all too easy for me to think, “Cha ching!”

I have a small, brown, leather purse from back in middle school. Isn’t that funny? It’s too small for me to use very often, but I can’t bring myself to get rid of it. Probably because I bought it myself and it was a big decision at the time. Another thing, is that I don’t have any other brown purses. Not technically. I have a very small brown canvas “bag” with three pink and cream ribbons sewn on the front. It was actually one of those mini-sized lotion gift packages from Victoria's Secret, but I LOVE it. It’s really cute and goes well with a lot of things. It works when all I need to carry is a small wallet, keys, a lipstick, and maybe a hair clip.

I also have a funky orange fuzzy purse with silver flecks in the material. I won a gift certificate to a purse store, and had to get that one. I use it when I want to have fun, be silly, or just when I need to smile. I also got a fun zebra print handbag at the same time. I have used it a couple of times, but I’m not accustomed to something so bold. Like the orange purse isn’t bold enough. Ha! I need to bring it out of my closet to see some daylight. Why should I care what someone thinks? I rarely do. It’s not like I’m wearing a fur coat to the grocery store and holding the purse at the same time. That would be a sight. Then again, I doubt I'll ever own a fur coat. Not my style. (Actually, I've seen that. It was a man, wearing a fur, in the grocery store.)

The last notable purse I have is probably the smallest. My best friend from high school gave it to me for my birthday one year during college. Picture a tiny camouflage purse with a skinny elastic strap. It's probably about 4 inches across, 3 inches tall, and a half inch deep/wide (when it isn’t full). This one is for the bare minimum. My license, a little money, maybe a credit card, and a small lipstick. My keys can’t fit unless they’re taken off the key ring. You can forget the hair clip, go for a rubber band.

That’s pretty much the extent of my purses. There are a few others, but I don't really use them. I know, I have too many. The good thing is that I haven’t bought any in a long time, and I usually don’t until I wear one out. I don't have any expensive handbags either. I once saw a Coach bag that I liked, that is until I saw the price. I may like expensive things, but I won't buy them.
