Arson? We Should Have Guessed.

It seems as though one, or more fires in California were intentionally set.

"One of the larger fires in Southern California was deliberately started by someone with apparent knowledge of arson, a fire official said Thursday."

"It is a confirmed arson. There was evidence found at the scene."

On one hand, I'm shocked and appalled. Rightfully so. On the other, maybe we should have guessed that someone did it. What's with people? Gah!

"The Santiago Fire in Orange County was started in two places along a little-traveled road, according to Chief Chip Prather of the county's fire authority."

"The fire, which has burned more than 25,000 acres, was started in brush just off Santiago Canyon Road, not close to homes. It spread rapidly, indicating the arsonist had some knowledge of winds and other factors." - Quotes source.

Does it ever seem that a naturally occurring wildfire is sometimes "easier" to get under control, rather than a fire started by human hands? I'm just saying. All of this makes me madder than a wet hen.

So tragic.

The person(s) responsible are guilty of loss of life, billions in property damage, wildlife endangerment, ecosystem damage, pollution, along with physical and emotional trauma. I'm sure the list could, and probably does go on.

I do not wish harm to the arsonist(s) at fault, because honestly that's not right. I do hope, if they are found, they will be charged to the full extent of the law. They should be held accountable for this atrocity. No slap on the wrist community service, and no loophole to wiggle out of.

Aside from that, I pray for the safety of all those involved.

A friend of mine made a very good point; this tragedy reminds us of how blessed we truly are, and to be thankful for that. We are, and I am.

Gosh, that is horrible that someone would do such a thing!

It's so sad that they have trouble with fires every year. Unreal! I feel bad for everyone that lost their home. But it sure makes me thankful for the blessings I have.

I think it was amazing that Pepperdine University was able to take care of a campus full of students and faculty without evacuating them. According to a relative of my husband's who is related to the President of Pepperdine, they had taken steps to keep all vegetation and brush cleared all around the campus in anticipation of just such an event as occurred this week. They were shut down for a day or two, but have now gotten back to work for the semester. Kudos to smart planning!

As for the arsonist(s), what kind of wretched life would participate in such destruction??? Oh, yeah, I see kids like the arsonist every day in the school where I work. Parents never learn how to say "no" to them, so their idea of "right" and "wrong" turns into "fun" and "no fun" activities without care for others!
