Girls Night Out

No, it's not what you think.

This past Thursday night I was able to be part of a wonderful, and very fun experience.

My friend Jennifer called to see if I could go with her, and two other sweet women to the KSBJ / Proverbs 31 Ministries "Girls Night Out" that evening. I told her I'd need to make sure there wasn't anything going on already and that J didn't mind being home alone for quite a while.

Thankfully J is a very thoughtful and caring husband. He told me to go and have fun, so I did!

Jennifer picked me up around 5:00 pm, and from there we picked up Kim, and onto Jennifer's sister Kimberly's house. Our intent was to eat at Hasta la Pasta and then go to the event. That didn't end up happening because just about every woman within a 5 mile radius of the event that night must have decided to go to Hasta la Pasta as well.

[grin]

Instead of waiting for 45 minutes or more, we stopped at Wendy's. It satisfied our hunger and got us down the road. We made it to the church building where we along with about 4,000 other women would get to enjoy some great speakers and music.

Yes, I did say 4,000 women. We even saw a few more of our friends from our church. Dana, and her sister Erin, along with Christina. I wish I had taken my camera, but that really wasn't the main point of the night.

"Girls Night Out" was an event to spiritually uplift us as single women, married women, moms, sisters, daughters, and believers.

The evening started at 7:30 pm with Ayiesha Woods singing "Happy", and having us sing the "la la la" parts with her.

After that song, our first speaker, Lysa TerKeurst, talked about her life and how she came to adopt two teen boys from Liberia, Africa.

We had an intermisison and Ayiesha came back to sing another song. Then Renee Swope spoke about the struggles in her life as a child, and as an adult. Always trying to seek love in the wrong places and things until she came to know God.

Both Lysa and Renee were very good speakers, and I appreciated what they had to say. Little did I know at the beginning of the night that there was a surprise speaker to come.

What a surprise it was! Our last speaker for the night was Kate Gosselin, of Jon and Kate Plus Eight. She came on stage around 10:00 pm!

You might wonder what a sassy, and sometimes snarky TV celebrity was doing speaking at a Christian women's conference. Well, Kate is a Christian herself and spoke about how God was with her and the babies during her pregnancy. It was also the reason why when the doctor(s) talked about reduction, she and Jon flat out refused. Her story was captivating and amazing on many levels. If you ever get the chance to hear Kate speak, or read her book, Multiple Blessings I suggest you do so. (I haven't been able to read the book yet, but I hope to sometime soon.)

When Kate was done, all of the ladies came back on stage to do a brief Q and A session. I managed to get a few pictures with my camera phone, but I have been unable to download them to my computer.

Questions being asked to Kate.

By the time the night was over we were all happy to have gotten to share it with one another, and were ready to head home. We could have gotten in the humongous line for Kate to sign books, but we would have been there until 1:00 am at least! We decided that it was best to get back home. On our way, we stopped by Wendy's once more. This time was for Frosties. Yum!

I made it home after 11:00 pm and was tired, but still happy and blessed to have been invited by Jennifer to attend "Girls Night Out".

Thanks for inviting me Jenn! I had a great time with you, Kim and Kimberly.

Okay that sounds like a really fun GNO!!! I'd love to hear her speak, too and any night that is topped off with Frosty's is good time in my book!

It was a lot of fun. I forgot to mention that we were on the floor, middle section, second row! Can you believe that? They were awesome seats. Oh, and Kate had really cute shoes, earrings and hair! (Yep I could see her earrings.)
