Excited and anxious

Why? Well because this afternoon I purchased a new DSLR, also known as a Digital SLR camera. It's been a long time coming. I will actually make the payment tomorrow, since the company didn't return my voice mail right away today.

J and I have looked for months, probably over half a year now and decided on the one we I wanted. Okay, he wanted it too but I convinced him about the particular model. While this specific model was more expensive than the original DSLR we looked at, this one will give us more options for use. We'll probably use this camera for 10 to 15 years... if not longer.

[Actually, I hope we can get 20+ years of use out of it.]

I'll be sad to see my trusty 35mm camera go, but now we will have a digital camera that functions like a manual and doesn't need film… that's a big difference and will be one more way to save money. Film and processing/developing is expensive! Yeah I know, W-Mart isn't too expensive but they still haven't figured out how to clean dust off negatives and print them properly. [Hello!] We learned that once unfortunately, and decided not to make the same mistake again.

So obviously I'm excited and anxious. Of course, who wouldn't be? A new camera? I've been saving money for this camera and it's always difficult to see that money = hard work + time pulled out of your account for a purchase.

I'll show better pictures when I can. Granted I ordered the camera so it's being shipped and will take 10 business days to arrive. You know what business days are don't you? They don't include weekends, so that's about 2 and 1/2 to 3 weeks. At least when it gets here I'll be super excited, almost like it's Christmas or my birthday.

Actually this may be my birthday AND Christmas present to myself since I'm the one who's paying for it. It's a combination business / personal purchase. I'll use it for work and at home. Not too bad if you ask me.

So what camera did we end up getting? A Canon EOS 40D. It's not the biggest one out there, but it's mid-range between a novice and professional camera. I think we got a pretty good deal, considering the price we paid for the camera body, five lenses, a set of filters, a tripod & mini tripod, a digital flash (hot shoe/slave flash), etc…

Now it's a waiting game, and prayers that a certain shipping company doesn't damage it during it's trip to us. Yes, we have insurance on it, plus 30 days to return the camera if there are any problems, so that's a good thing. Until then, I'll be dreaming of the new member of our family.

Have fun with your new toy! Before Mallory was born Matthew ebayed everything he could think of so he could buy one. I didn't understand what the big deal was until I used it and saw the pictures. I love it, I just wish I knew how to do more with ours. Something tells me you wont have that problem.

Thanks Marcia! I know what you mean about eBaying/selling stuff. I had been looking at the XSi, XS, and the brand new T1i but felt the 40D would give us the most options and a better package for the price.

I'll definitely be reading the "novel" that comes with the camera, since there are so many new menu choices and buttons. ;) If I learn anything handy, I'll try to remember and pass the info on to you.
