It's getting hot in here

I'd like to be able to run around like a 2 year old in it's birthday suit... I've got too many windows, neighbors, and more sense than that. Bummer.

Our air conditioning went out on Saturday. We're one of the few lucky ones who rent our home. That means we can't just get it fixed or replace the unit. Actually we are lucky, because we could be stuck in an apartment, paying three-times what we are now, for less square footage.
We called our landlord and told him what the problem was. He got in touch with the guys who installed our new heater in October. (I can't wait until we are able to buy our own - however the things that have occurred in the past year have postponed our home buying plans.) Our landlord is probably one of the best, considering what we've seen others deal with. I'm thankful for that.

Sunday night we had our Life Group (small groups) for church. We were to bring 15 baked potatoes. Ugh! I don't mind bringing food, or cooking for that matter. Baking potatoes for an hour in a 400 degree oven was a bit rough for the warm weather we've been having, while our AC isn't working.
While I'm thankful for our landlord and the things we do have, I have a bug to pick. Someone was supposed to come out Monday afternoon. "Afternoon" came and went, so we called to find out what happened. Maybe a miscommunication between the boss and worker. I'm still not sure, but either way they said they would be there on Tuesday. We had just about every window open and our ceiling fans on high last night. That worked well since the evenings are cooler still.

This morning I received a call at 7:45 am letting me know that someone would be by around 8:45 or 9:00 am. I'm happy to report they showed up today. After checking the thermostat, and then the actual unit behind the house, there was bad news. The AC man was trying to fill the unit with freon, and it just leaked out. The unit is older, so many of the parts aren't quite up to par. He said that if he fixed the parts, it would cost $500+. In his opinion it would be better to invest that money into a new unit. That would be fine, if that was our decision to make, however Mr. Landlord needed a phone call.

A few phone calls later, we were at a stalemate.

The AC worker's boss was in an airplane and couldn't be reached. Our landlord finally decided that we would probably get a new unit, but he still wanted to talk to the AC boss.

Meanwhile I'm working at home, it's getting to be 2:00 pm and about 85 degrees outside and about 83 inside. I wouldn't say that it's dangerously hot, but when it's humid in Houston and you're inside a house it gets uncomfortable. Wednesday we hope to get everything fixed. Cooking dinner will be a little more tolerable that way. No baked potatoes for a while.
I keep reminding myself to be thankful that it isn't August and 100+ degrees. Also that we're inside a house, and have fans. I think about the homeless and poor, and am much more thankful about the situation. I know it could be worse.

Well, what do you know... it's still 83 degrees inside, while it is now 76 outside. Iced tea anyone?

That sux. I remember one weekend when our ac went out in the middle of the summmer back when I still lived in the apartment. Goodness that was rough. I was miserable. But of course no worries about baking anything, since I used my oven for storage. ;)

I loved that! True as it may be, it still made me smile. Thanks!

I'm glad today is cooler.
