Childhood Drama

I was reading a funny post from Oh, The Joys.
"DON'T ASK ME ABOUT THAT!!!!!"
Bwaa haa ha ha! That's priceless.

It reminded me of the time my cousin and I were playing with "you know who" dolls. (Their bodies are massively out of proportion to real life, and women with those measurements would literally fall over.) That's, BARBIE to the rest of you.

Anyway, we were playing dolls together. You know what? I don't have a clue if we were playing "house" with them or what. Maybe we were pretending the dolls were characters from Star Wars. All I know is that the dolls weren't getting married and playing kissy-face. At least not this time.

I need to pause here and give a little background. I may regret this later, but it's worth it.

Pause.

My cousin and I are a year apart in age, so there isn't a problem there. The big difference is that my cousin is a guy. (Sorry JW.) At the time he may have been between 8 to 10 years old. I say that remembering that I still liked to play with Barbie dolls at that point.

Okay, enjoy your laugh once you realize what's going on.

Actually it was only fair that he "played Barbies" when he was at my house, for some sort of family gathering. I didn't really have too many "boys toys", so playing with my toys, board games, or outside was about it.

Here's a rare moment. You getting to see a picture of me with short,
feathered 80's hair, holding a garden snake. Also wearing a lovely sweat suit.
P
urple was my most favorite-est color. I heart-ed purple! (That's one of my cousins in gray.)

You see, when we were at my cousin's house, we played with his toys. LEGO sets, Star Wars action figures (I know, JW, they're not dolls.), garden snakes outside, or we reenacted scenes from Star Wars. The latter choice was our favorite. Duh, it's Star Wars.

Since I played with his toys and games, he did the same with me. Honestly, it wasn't that bad.

Back to the Barbie story.

So, we were playing in my room with the door open. (Wasn't that the standard rule at your house too?) Somebody must have seen us or overheard us talking, because they came by with a camera. Ugh! For the love!

They snapped a picture of my poor cousin tossing the Barbie doll down, and diving to the floor in an attempt to hide. Unfortunately for him, they caught him mid-dive.

I wish I had a copy of this picture. I'd love for you to see the humor in it.
This picture will have to do for now.

My hair is so much better, but then again I'm younger and cuter.
(I can say that, because it's me.) Can anyone name the Barbie from 1982 that I'm holding?
(I know her, but wondered if you did.)

If I mentioned this story today, my cousin might just roll his eyes and laugh. Then he might try to blame me for that horrible moment. I'd just smile and hug him.

Love you JW! Thanks for being such a great cousin.

biddy - I think I'll leave the nekked Barbie topic alone. ;)

kelly - Yes, that Barbie came with the little machine to twist her hair. She was known as "Twirly Curls Barbie".

I love the pictures of you! I had to play Barbies too because I had ALL girl cousins. I would try to get them to play with my Transformers but it never worked...oh the shame!!!
