Last Night We Had a Visitor

from the animal kingdom.

Say hello to "Mr. Hoppy McHoppersons", the American Green Tree Frog (Hyla cinerea).

Actually I don't know what his name is. Truth be told, I don't even know if Hoppy is a he or a she. Based on the vocalizations we've been hearing (his late night chirps to the uh ... fairer sex), I would guess Hoppy is from the male persuasion. You know about the birds and the bees, so I don't have to explain things. It's the same with our hippity hop friends. They've gotta start a family too.

Hello there Mr. McHoppersons!

Last night I was in the process of letting Kira outside, and as I reached down for the handle of the door, I saw Hoppy. It startled me at first, but then part of me wanted to touch/hold him. I didn't because I knew he was either A) staying away from something bigger, B) trying to get a bite to eat, or C) looking for his lady frog. Who am I to get in the way of that?

What a cute little green friend. I would have enjoyed watching him as a little guy, hopping around, sticking on my windows trying to catch bugs. Goodness knows we have plenty of them. Take all you want Hoppy, especially the mosquitoes.

What pretty golden eyes you have, and long padded tootsies. Try not to leave too many toeprints on my windows if you don't mind.

Look at that soft white belly. What a contrast to his bright lime green back, and gold-tinged speckles and eyes. He sat very still, but I could see his throat moving rapidly. Too bad he didn't make a peep while I could see him. That would have been interesting.

Hopefully we will get to see Mr. McHoppersons again sometime soon. Who knows, maybe we'll see him and Mrs. McHoppersons catching bugs together.

You are such a hopeless romantic!

glee - Yeah, like a little girl playing "dolls" with a family of hair brushes. Always imagining, and writing the story in my head. Although, I know too well that Hoppy will meet his demise one day.
